‘PILGRIMS’
Research project completed in 2025.
“PILGRIMS” are the subject of my research, and the layers of history that compress with each footstep. The landscapes they walk through are turbulent and changing, rippling with the sediment of ecological nostalgia and human terraforming. These historic routes were once busy with those seeking salvation; at present this idea is reviving, though the spiritual connection is more with the environment than a God. Through these walks across time and landscape, what once was and what is possible, become fictioned with entanglement. What does that mean for the pilgrims of the future?
This visual essay was printed into a 38 page booklet of tracing paper and card. Comprised of images taken on site, historical research and found digital material. The Essay charts the story of a pilgrimage past present and future. Each spread was then scanned, and a written piece created alongside it which was shown as a film and performance.
